Holmaneset is located on the coast of the Nordgulen fjord, about 8 km west of Svelgen in Bremanger municipality. The region features transmission infrastructure and port facilities to serve domestic and European markets.
Creating Green Energy
The project will produce green hydrogen and ammonia using electrolysis and ammonia synthesis.
Driven by renewable energy, these zero carbon products are key to creating a low-emission society.
The Holmaneset Project could contribute to cutting the equivalent of nearly half of Bergen’s - the second largest city in the country - annual emissions.
Reducing Emissions, Protecting the Planet
Green ammonia can replace fossil fuels and contribute to the decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors.
Fortescue will be working together with domestic and European partners to achieve emission cuts from industries such as shipping, given the Project’s location and Norway’s strong maritime heritage.
Currently in an early phase, construction is planned to start in 2025, with operations potentially beginning in 2027.
Scoping Phase:
Preliminary geotechnical and environmental site surveys have taken place since 2022, to capture seasonal variations and inform early engineering design.
Feasibility Phase:
An Initial regulatory planning process for repurposing the land for industrial use is underway, including environmental, social and risk assessments. These assessments will be taken in accordance with applicable law.
Construction Phase:
Construction begins in 2025, pending regulatory approvals, technical preparations and a positive investment decision from The Fortescue Board.
Operations Phase:
The project is set to be operational by 2027.
